Biographical notes
Fred Stanley (1888-1957), trade unionist and parliamentarian, was born at Marrickville, NSW, son of Thomas and Martha Stanley. He worked on the trams as a conductor and as a driver, later becoming an executive member of the Tramway Employees' Union. Stanley was an alderman of Canterbury Municipal Council from 1925 to 1928. He was elected a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seat of Lakemba (1927-1950). [ref:Biographical register of the NSW Parliament 1901-1970/Radi et al]
