Biographical notes
Alexander Walker Scott (1800-1883) was educated in England graduating from the University of Cambridge a Bachelor of Arts (1822) and Master of Arts (1825). In 1827 he arrived at Newcastle in his ship with a view to trading as a merchant. During his second voyage in 1829 Scott took up a land grant on Ash Island in the Hunter River. He returned as a settler with his mother and sister in 1831 and acquired land between Newcastle and Maitland.
Alexander Walker Scott was elected to the first parliament after responsible government and was a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seats of Northumberland and Hunter (1856-1859), Northumberland (1859-1860), and Lower Hunter (1860-1861). He was a member of the NSW Legislative Council (1861-1866).
