Biographical notes
John Gordon Thorne Jackett, company director and parliamentarian, was born in 1912 at Unley, South Australia, son of Harry Gordon Jackett. Harry Gordon Jackett was MLA for Burwood 1935 to 1938 and again from 1941 to 1951. John Gordon Thorne Jackett moved to Sydney with his family in 1918. He was educated at The King's School, Parramatta after which he entered the family flour milling business.
Jackett was an Alderman on Burwood Council from 1953-1962 and was elected Liberal MLA for Burwood in May 1965. He retained the seat until September 1978 when he was defeated in the election.
