Biographical notes

Kenneth George Gabb (1949- ), barrister and parliamentarian, was born at Canterbury and educated at Canterbury Boys High School and the University of Sydney where he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Laws. He was employed by the NSW Department of Attorney-General and Justice (1968-1969) and the Crown Solicitor's Office (1969-1978) before being admitted as a Barrister-at-Law in 1980.

Gabb was pre-selected as the Labor candidate for the state seat of Earlwood in 1975 but was unsuccessful in the 1976 state election standing against the Liberal sitting member and former premier, Sir Eric Willis, who had held the seat since it was formed in 1950. Gabb was elected to the NSW Legislative Assembly in the seat of Earlwood in July 1978 following Willis' retirement. The Liberal candidate in the by-election was broadcaster Alan Jones who also stood without success against Gabb in the state election later that year. Gabb was a member of the Wran and Unsworth governments in which he served as Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Minister for Mineral Resources. He lost his seat in the 1988 state election which also saw Labor lose government.
