Dangar, Henry Carey, 1830 – 1917
Biographical notes
Henry Cary Dangar (1830-1917), barrister and parliamentarian, was born at Port Stephens, NSW, the son of Henry and Grace Dangar. He was educated at Sydney College and Trinity College, University of Cambridge, where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts (1853) and Master of Arts (1857). He was admitted to Middle Temple London in 1854 but did not practise law in Australia. On his return to Australia Dangar was involved in commercial and pastoral interests and was a partner in companies including Dangar Bros and Dangar Gilchrist & Co.
Henry Carey Dangar was elected a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seats of West Sydney (1874-1877) and East Sydney (1880-1882), and the NSW Legislative Council (1883-1917).
