Clark, Edward Mann, 1854 – 1933

Biographical notes

Edward Mann Clark (1854-1933), timber merchant and parliamentarian, was born at Hobart, Tasmania, son of William and Selina Clark. He was educated at Oldfield's Academy, Hobart, before moving to Sydney on the death of his father. Clark worked for a brick merchant and then for the timber merchants Miller and Harrison, and later Goodlet and Smith. By 1882 he was with Clark and Priestman, timber merchants.

Clark was elected an alderman for East St. Leonards (1884-1890) and alderman for North Sydney (1890-1928). He was mayor of North Sydney (1892-1893, 1918-1919). Clark was elected member of the NSW Legislative Assembly in the seats of St. Leonards (1891-1894, 1895-1904, 1907-1910) and Willoughby (1894-1895).
