Biographical notes
Sydney Burdekin (1839-1899), pastoralist and parliamentarian, was educated at W.T. Cape's School at Darlinghurst and the University of Sydney where he graduated Bachelor of Arts (1859). Sydney Burdekin managed large pastoral in northern NSW and Queensland. He managed the family's real estate interests and was a director of various public companies.
Burdekin was elected member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seats of Tamworth (1880-1882), East Sydney (1884-1891) and The Hawkesbury (1892-1894). Sydney Burdekin was an alderman on Sydney City Council (1883-1898) and Lord Mayor of Sydney (1890-1891).
