Biographical notes
Sir Henry Braddon (1863-1955), businessman, financier and parliamentarian, was born in India, son of Sir Edward N. C. Braddon and his wife Georgina. He was educated in Germany and England before arriving at Tasmania in 1878 where he attended Launceston Church Grammar School. Braddon began his commercial career working for the Commercial Bank of Tasmania before transferring to New Zealand where he worked for some years. On his return to Australia in 1884 he worked in Sydney and became a prominent member of the financial and commercial business community. He held many directorships of public companies and public institutions.
Braddon, whose father had been a parliamentarian and Premier of Tasmania, was appointed to the NSW Legislative Council in 1917. After the Legislative Council was reconstituted in 1933 he was elected for a further six year term, retiring in 1940. Sir Henry Braddon was a lecturer at the University of Sydney (1907-1918) on business principles and published a number of works on business principles and practice.
